![]() Garland was a long-time member, elder and treasurer for Monterey Presbyterian Church and was the last charter member of the Mill Gap Ruritan Club as well as one of the original members of the Economic Authority of Highland County. He retired as the hardware manager of Rockingham Cooperative. He was a self-employed bookkeeper for various county businesses and individuals and tax preparer for over 60 years. On September 26, 1953, he married Lillian Jean Simmons.Ī 16-year-old graduate of Monterey High School, Garland went on to attend and graduate top of his class from Dunsmore Business College. Susan recently moved back to Virginia to be closer to her family and friends in the Alleghany Highlands. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Susan graduated from Covington High School in 1984 and from Florida State College at Jacksonville with honors.
